Vietnam keep AFF Cup title hope with late goal against Thailand in final

Vietnam scored first but let Thailand came back with two goals, before escaping defeat with a late goal in the first leg of the 2022 AFF Cup final on Friday.

    Thailand almost got ahead again when a wrong pass put three of their players against Vietnam's two, but it's still keeper Van Lam with a crucial save. After this play, the referee also blew the final whistle. Vietnam drew 2-2 against Thailand in the first and will have to score in the second leg to win the title.

Vietnam reached the final with an impressive defensive record, not conceding a single goal since the beginning of the tournament.

Statistics from the 2022 AFF Cup showed that Thailand lead in the number of goals (16), goal ratio per match (2.67), the number of passes (3,480), pass accuracy (87%), number of shots (128), shots on target (45), corners taken (40) and number of penalties (3).

Both teams are undefeated so far in the tournament.

In the 2020 AFF Cup, Vietnam lost 0-2 to Thailand in the semifinals.
