Keeper Van Chuan made a great save but there was nothing they could do about the follow-up, as he fouled an Iraq player, stopping him from getting a tap-in. The referee didn't hesitate to give Iraq another penalty but after listening to the VAR room, he decided that it was offside.
Vietnam have to beat Iraq if they want to keep their Olympic qualification hope alive. The same goes for Iraq, who topped group C despite losing 0-2 to Thailand in the opening game, but later beat Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia.
In group D, Vietnam placed second after defeating Kuwait and Malaysia but lost to Uzbekistan.
Six years ago, Vietnam also faced Iraq in the quarterfinals of the 2018 U23 Asian Cup, where they won on penalties to move on.
Both teams will have the strongest squad for this clash.
