Vietnam defeat Malaysia to reach SEA Games men’s football semifinals

Abdul Rahman elbowed Quoc Cuong as Malaysia were preparing for a corner kick and was booked. He repeated the elbow, but the referee only gave him a warning.

Rohisham Haiqal's header struck Nguyen Phi Hoang's arm inside the box, prompting Malaysia players to ask for a penalty. Referee Al Hatmi hesitated for a moment, then decided not to call it. There is no VAR in the SEA Games.

Dinh Bac, who has been the star of the show for Vietnam in this game with assists in both goals, was subbed out for Nguyen Ngoc My.

Malaysia also used their last substitution.

Despite numerous counter-attacking opportunities, Vietnam didn't rush to move the ball forward quickly, opting instead for short passes to buy more time. Malaysia players seemed to be running out of steam, as many got cramps or injuries.

Vietnam played lower and slower to preserve their stamina and a clean sheet, as the game went into the final 20 minutes. Malaysia made another substitution after a player was injured.

Vietnam renewed their midfield with three substitutions.

Malaysia used their fourth substitution while Vietnam haven't made any change.
