Vietnam suffered a heavy defeat against Japan in their last match at Asian Games women's football group stage Thursday and were eliminated from the tournament.

Facing Japan, who are eighth on world ranking and 26 places above, Vietnam will find it hard to create a surprise in the last round of group D.

After the first two rounds, Vietnam won 2-0 against Nepal and 6-1 against Bangladesh, placing second in the group. A draw or a narrow defeat will be enough to get Vietnam past the group stage.
