Iraq qualify for Paris Olympics, Indonesia wait continues

A 2-1 victory after extra time of the U23 Asian Cup third-place playoff Friday sent Iraq straight to the Paris Olympics, while Indonesia's fate remains undecided.

    Indonesia almost found the equalizer after keeper Hasan left the goal open as he punched the ball out. An Indonesia player tried to head it into the empty net but it was blocked by the defense of Iraq. After this play, the referee also blew the final whistle and Iraq players had an emotional celebration as they have qualified for the Paris Olympics. Indonesia will have another chance to qualify next week in a playoff with Africa's Guinea.

    With nothing to lose, Indonesia will have to push forward to seek an equalizer now, even though the players were tired.

After their respective defeats against Japan and Uzbekistan, Iraq and Indonesia still have something to fight for in the third-place playoff which is Asia's remaining ticket to Olympic Paris this summer.

The team that lose this match will still have another chance to qualify for the Olympics, as they will enter the intercontinental playoff with Africa's Guinea, which would be a much tougher challenge.
