Vietnam beat Indonesia with Nguyen Quang Hai's goal to claim their second straight victory at ASEAN Cup and climb to first place in group B.

Vietnam secured a 1-0 victory over Indonesia in their second match of the ASEAN Cup group stage, earning three points to take the top spot in Group B with six points from two games. The win brings Vietnam closer to the semifinals as they maintain a perfect record in the tournament.

Vietnam dominated possession in the first half, controlling 77% of the ball and firing six shots compared to none from Indonesia. Despite their attacking efforts, including headers and crosses into the box from Nguyen Tien Linh and others, Indonesia’s resolute defense stood firm, frustrating the home side. The first 45 minutes ended goalless, with Indonesia opting for a defensive, counterattacking approach.

The second half saw Vietnam intensify their attacks, seeking to capitalize on their dominance. After several missed opportunities, captain Nguyen Quang Hai finally broke the tie in the 77th minute. His long-range shot initially hit the crossbar, but he quickly seized the rebound after a touch from Tien Linh and slotted it past Indonesia’s goalkeeper Cahya Supriadi.

Indonesia responded by pushing forward in search of an equalizer. Their efforts included a close header that nearly found the back of the net. However, Vietnam’s defense remained vigilant to deny any late drama. Hai Long also showcased his skills with a brilliant dribble and shot that narrowly missed the target.

In the closing moments, Vietnam made key substitutions to protect their lead, including striker Nguyen Van Toan. Despite five additional minutes, Indonesia couldn’t find the equalizer, and the match ended 1-0 in Vietnam’s favor.

With two wins and six points, Vietnam now leads Group B and has a strong chance of advancing to the semifinals. Their next match, against the Philippines on Dec. 18, will be critical in solidifying their position and preparing for the knockout rounds.
