Argentina win 2022 World Cup in penalty shoot-out

Argentina took the trophy home after defeating France at penalties in the World Cup final Sunday.

    Muani nearly scored for France but Martinez got a brilliant save. Then a moment later, Mbappe dribbled past many defenders of Argentina but his finishing attempt deflected off Dybala. The referee blew the whistle and the penalty shootout is ahead.

    Three minutes are added to the second half of extra time. France replaced Kounde with Disasi, while Argentina sent on Dybala for Tagliafico.

After 63 matches, the World Cup in Qatar comes to a close on Sunday when reigning champions France take on Argentina in a showpiece final at Lusail Stadium with both teams looking to add a third star to their crest.

The last time these two teams met was at the 2018 World Cup where France beat Argentina 4-3 in the last 16, an encounter that was arguably the most entertaining match of the tournament in Russia.
