Vietnam had a difficult game with Singapore as they struggled to find a way through the disciplined and multi-layered defense of the opponent. A part of it came from the fact that coach Park Hang-seo chose a lineup with many reserved players. Vietnam barely created a relevant chance in the first half.
In the second half, Park put several key players in, and although Vietnam played better, Singapore’s defense remained solid. Substitution striker Nguyen Tien Linh had many good chances to score, but his aim was not good in this game, whether it’s a long-distance shot, a tap-in or a header. Vietnam were the closest to goal when Nguyen Hoang Duc’s shot hit the post.
With the 0-0 draw against Singapore, the door to the semifinals for Vietnam is still wide open. The team will only be eliminated if they lost to Myanmar from six goals and Singapore draw against Malaysia in the last fixture of group B next week.
