A convention center designed to host APEC 2027 events will cover more than 152,000 square meters and feature an 11,000-square-meter column-free hall, with architecture inspired by the waves surrounding Phu Quoc.
The convention center will serve as the main venue for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum in 2027. With a total floor area of 152,166 square meters, four above-ground floors, and one basement level, the complex is designed to accommodate high-level international events with demanding diplomatic, economic and cultural requirements.
Sun Group partnered with SOM, one of the world's leading architectural firms, to design the building with inspirations from Phu Quoc's ocean waves.
The sweeping roof features carefully crafted curves, lighting and varying elevations to create a seamless sense of movement.
The main lobby features a soaring ceiling and expansive daylight-filled spaces.
Materials are intentionally restrained, with stone, metal, and terrazzo serving as the primary finishes. "This minimalist approach highlights the scale of the space and the interplay of light, creating a sense of understated luxury," the design team said.
At the heart of the complex is an 11,050-sqm multifunctional exhibition and convention hall. The venue is designed to host a wide range of events, from exhibitions and trade fairs to concerts and other large-scale gatherings.
More than 30 meeting rooms adopt a minimalist design. Neutral color palettes, consistent lighting, and clean material finishes create a professional meeting environment.
The ballroom is designed with spacious column-free layout, combined with sophisticated lighting and premium materials.
The VIP area provides privacy and exclusivity, using wood and metal materials, and warm lighting.
After conference sessions, delegates can gather at a 2,000-seat dinner-show venue. The entertainment space, developed by Dragone, the company behind world-renowned productions, allows audiences to enjoy performances combining advanced stage technology with immersive sound and lighting effects.
Experts expect the APEC Convention Center to enhance Phu Quoc's international standing, helping transform the island into a destination for large-scale MICE events.
