At the heart of the APEC complex, the Convention and Exhibition Center developed by Sun Group had completed more than 90% of its reinforced concrete structure after approximately 10 months of construction. As of April 22, all 13 roof spans had been completed, with roofing installation underway.
An artist\'s impression (R) and a photo taken on April 16 (L) show the convention center taking shape in line with its architectural design.
According to the contractor, between 2,400 and 2,700 workers have been mobilized simultaneously across structural, finishing, and MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) works to ensure the project remains on schedule.
The centerpiece of the complex is the 11,050-sq.m convention hall featuring an 81-meter column-free span. Covering an area comparable to a football field, the hall is supported by a 12,000-ton steel roof structure installed using a precision hydraulic lifting system with millimeter-level accuracy.
Alongside the convention center, supporting facilities are also progressing rapidly. The multipurpose performance venue has completed approximately 85% of its structural works and is preparing to enter the steel installation phase.
With a total investment of VND22 trillion (US$83.6 million), the Phu Quoc International Airport expansion project is progressing at full pace, with several components already ahead of schedule.
The VIP terminal, designated to welcome heads of state during APEC 2027, has completed 100% of its structural works, while Passenger Terminal T2 has reached approximately 87% completion and has entered the steel roof installation stage.
Aircraft Apron C1 was completed after three months of construction, around two-thirds faster than the original schedule, and was put into operation in mid-April 2026.
Approximately 4,000 workers are deployed across the airport construction site each day, carrying out works from the runway to the passenger terminals.
Provincial Road DT.975, a key transport corridor serving APEC 2027, is also being constructed at full speed along its entire route.
According to the project developer, multiple construction teams are simultaneously carrying out earthworks, foundation construction, and drainage installation. More than 716,000 cubic meters of excavation and ground treatment have been completed, while embankment works have reached approximately 56% for K95 and 46% for K98 specifications.
Associated infrastructure, including utility corridors and stormwater drainage systems, is being developed in parallel, with thousands of meters of utility trenches and drainage pipes installed. Road foundation works have accelerated, with more than 60% of the crushed stone aggregate (37.5 mm) already stockpiled and large-scale paving now underway across the site.
APEC 2027 is scheduled to take place in late 2027. According to contractors, all available resources are being concentrated on completing the projects on schedule, supporting Phu Quoc's ambition to become a premier destination for major international events.
