Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian during a gunfight in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian medical sources said on Tuesday, as troops fought to rescue two soldiers who were attacked after straying into a violent trouble spot.

Indian town under curfew after violent protest

Curfew is imposed in a town in India's western Gujarat state after a protest by the Patidar community demanding the release of their leader turns violent. Diane Hodges reports.The clashes broke out in the town of Mehsana as members of the Patindar, or Patel, community were protesting the detention of their leader, Hardik Patel, who was arrested on sedition charges last October.Police fired tear gas at the crowd and took hundreds into custody.Officials imposed a curfew and suspended internet service to the area, to prevent what they called, the spread of rumors.The Patels are a relatively affluent group, but they're demanding to be included in government programs that reserve spots at universities and government offices for certain minority and disadvantaged groups.Members of the group own thousands of businesses around the world, but in India, the economy has been growing too slowly to create jobs, prompting the Patels to demand greater access to government posts.

Anti-Trump protest turns violent in California

About 20 protesters were arrested on Thursday night outside a Donald Trump rally in southern California, where the Republican presidential front-runner was vowing to get tough on illegal immigration.Protesters smashed the window of a police car, and large crowds faced off against officers in riot gear.The violence erupted outside a campaign rally in Costa Mesa, California for Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump. We're gonna stop it and we're gonna build a wall."At least 20 protesters were arrested as police tried to disperse the crowd.Thousands flooded the streets outside the county fair grounds where Trump was speaking... some blocking traffic, others destroying a police cruiser.One driver did donuts in the road almost hitting a protester.Trump is hoping to garner support in California where voters head to the polls for the state's Republican primary on June 7th.A strong win in California could thrust him above the delegate count needed to secure the nomination.But his tough rhetoric being met with fierce opposition in parts of California, which is home to a large Latino population.
