Vietnam earn second victory at World Cup qualifiers

Vietnam took a well-deserved 3-1 win away from home against Indonesia on Tuesday.

Vietnam beat Indonesia 3-1 in their World Cup qualification match on Tuesday, showing good control of the game despite playing away.

It was their second victory at the competition, after a 1-0 victory against Malaysia last Thursday and a goalless draw with Thailand last month.

Playing in Bali, Vietnam had more possession of the ball and gave Indonesia a hard time, rendering them unable to launch any serious attacks.

Vietnam opened the scoreboard in the 26th minute after Indonesia's clumsy clearance enabled an easy tap-in by Do Duy Manh.

Que Ngoc Hai scored Vietnam's second goal from a penalty in the 54th minute and Nguyen Tien Linh scored their third goal in the 61th.

Yet a moment of loose defense cost Vietnam their first goal at the World Cup qualification. Irfan Bachdim's shot sailed past three Vietnamese defenders and keeper Dang Van Lam. It was also Indonesia's first goal at the competition.

Vietnam were given a penalty in the last minute but keeper Muhammad Ridho made a good save.

Vietnam will play Indonesia at home in June next year.

Their next game at the World Cup qualification will be against UAE in November 11.
