Although the ancient town of Hoi An in central Vietnam has not officially resumed tourism activities after a historic flood, many foreigners are showing up to admire the travel hotspot despite its dirty roads and closed businesses.

Many groups of foreign tourists were seen strolling on the roads of Hoi An early Saturday.

Hoi An has not officially reopened as local residents are still cleaning up after the town was submerged in water in five days due to torrential rainfall.

Chua Bridge has not opened, but tourists still stopped to listen to tour guides explaining the image of the bridge printed on the VND20,000 (US$0.76) bill.

Ticket counters remain closed. Hoi An authorities plan to resume travel activities in the town within one or two days when water is expected to completely withdraw and roads are cleaned.

Streets along the Hoai River were still flooded at around 0.5 meters as of Saturday, and tourists could not stroll in this area. Hoi An has stopped raining, but the flood is showing signs of rising again.
