Ronaldo, 40, posted a photo of his visit on Nov. 19 with the caption: “Thank you Mr. President for your invitation and for the warm welcome you and the First Lady gave me and my future wife, Georgina Rodriguez. Each of us has something meaningful to give, and I stand ready to do my part as we inspire new generations to build a future defined by courage, responsibility and lasting peace.”
In this photo, behind Ronaldo is a picture of Ronald Reagan, the 40th U.S. President. Ronaldo’s father, Jose Dinis Aveiro, admired Reagan not only for his role in politics but also for his acting career before his presidency.
Ronaldo was born on Feb. 5, 1985, at the time Reagan was U.S. President. Although his son was born in Madeira, Portugal, Aveiro decided to name him after Reagan as a symbol of the power and influence he respected, despite Reagan having turned from film industry to politics. The name Ronaldo has since been associated with the career of one of the greatest players in football history.
Ronaldo’s fiancée, Georgina, also chatted, shook hands and took photos with Trump.
Ronaldo met Georgina in 2016 when she worked at a Gucci store in Madrid. The two quickly became the focus of international media. In August 2025, Georgina posted a photo wearing a large diamond ring, revealing that Ronaldo proposed to her.
Georgina has raised five children with the Portuguese superstar.
During the visit, President Trump introduced Ronaldo to the golden key with the symbol of the White House (Key to the White House). This is an honorary gift, not a real key to open the door, but a symbol of solemn reception, showing the respect and recognition of the White House to Ronaldo.
The gesture resembles the tradition of handing "keys to the city" to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions. Through this act, Ronaldo is not only recognized as a world-class athlete but also an influential figure in international relations and culture.
The Instagram of the White House page also posted a video of Ronaldo and Georgina walking with Trump on the Presidential Walk of Fame. The White House account captioned the post: "Two GOATS", implying that both Trump and Ronaldo are "Greatest of All Time."
The caption also included "CR7 x 45/47," with 45 and 47 referring to Trump being the 45th and 47th (re-elected) President of the United States.
The video went viral, attracting more than 3.4 million likes and 74,000 comments after just a few hours on Instagram.
Ronaldo was presented at the White House for a state dinner hosted by Trump the previous day. This was the Portuguese superstar's first public appearance in the U.S. since 2016.
In his opening speech, Trump complimented Ronaldo, saying that his son, Barron, is a big fan. The 79-year-old president joked that his son "respects his father a little more" just because he met Ronaldo at the White House.
At the end of the evening, technology founder David Sacks posted a selfie taken by Ronaldo, which included billionaire Elon Musk, FIFA president Gianni Infantino, Georgina, and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick.
"Great night!" Sacks wrote. U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins also expressed her excitement at sitting next to the Portuguese superstar.
