Judges, directors, actors and guests attending Da Nang Asian Film Festival visited Hoi An Ancient Town on May 11. Actress Moon So Ri, 49, was seen in a short skirt, a polo t-shirt, and a hat. She arrived in Vietnam last week to attend the film festival as a judge.

Moon So Ri and her husband, director Jang Joon Hwan, 53, took a photo at the Hoai River. Moon’s uncle is living in Ho Chi Minh City, and the actress said she’s found the country very “comfortable.”

Moon listens to a tour guide illuminate the history and culture of the ancient town, which used to be a major international trading port in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The actress takes photos of Hoi An. In 2016, she visited the ancient town as a guest of the Autumn Meeting film program organized by local Vietnamese cinematic artists. She said she was introduced to the Vietnamese film industry through work of directors including Tran Anh Hung and Phan Dang Di.

The actress visited the statue of Tran Vu at Cau Temple. Tran Vu is the Water God associated with Hoi An, so many residents frequently visit Cau Temple to pray to the local god near the Thu Bon River.

Several fans took photos with Moon.
Moon, 49, started working in the film industry in 1999. Her first lead role was in “Peppermint Candy,” directed by Lee Chang Dong. The movie was shown during the opening ceremony of the 1999 Busan Film Festival, and it won the best film prize at the festival.

It also won at the 2000 Grand Bell Awards. In 2000, Moon won Best New Actress at the 57th Venice Film Festival with her role in the
film “Oasis,” directed by Lee Chang Dong.

Moon discusses the ancient town with her tour guide. She sought advice on how to enjoy her time in the ancient town with her husband in a private manner without a tour group.

Film director Vo Thanh Hoa and his wife, actress Mai Bao Ngoc, were also part of Moon’s tour group of cinematic visitors from the festival.

The couple said the weather was good in the ancient town, however, they enjoyed seeing the city at night after the famed lanterns went on.

“We took wedding photos in Hoi An in 2017,” Vo said.

The group of visitors visited Hoi An for two hours, before returning to Da Nang to attend other DANAFF events.

The first Da Nang Asian Film Festival, founded by Ngo Phuong Lan (former head of the Vietnam Cinema Department) was held between May 9 and 13 this year.
