“A night to slay, a night to sway with laughter echoing through the family,” Huy wrote in a Facebook post, sharing photos from the event he personally organized.
To energize the party, the financier took the stage to show off his dance moves.
“I practiced for two hours just for 30 seconds of chaotic rhythm,” he joked, adding that jazz music might not be his forte.
Huy previously captured public attention in June 2023 with a viral performance at ACB’s 30th anniversary celebration, where he sang Lady Gaga’s “Always Remember Us This Way” and danced to Vietnamese singer Ho Ngoc Ha’s “Lonely on the Sofa.”
For the party, he first appeared in a sharp tailored suit with an open-collared black shirt before switching to a sequined blazer for his performance.
His mother Dang Thu Thuy wore a shimmering, bead-embellished gown paired with a Bulgari Serpenti Viper white gold necklace encrusted with 8.21 carats of diamonds, worth an estimated US$91,000.
In addition to dancing, Huy serenaded his mother with “Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love for You” as a heartfelt tribute.
The “One Night to Slay” themed party embraced an opulent Great Gatsby aesthetic, featuring a five-tier cake and 1920s-inspired decor.
At 47, Huy earned an MBA from Chapman University in the U.S. and returned to Vietnam, where he secretly applied for a job at Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) without informing his parents.
He spent three years working in junior roles at the bank before returning to the U.S. to pursue a doctorate in economics.
After completing his PhD, he came back to Vietnam and was appointed deputy CEO of ACB. In 2012, at age 34, he was promoted to chairman, becoming the youngest person to hold the position in Vietnam’s banking industry.
