The upcoming Trump-Kim summit in Hanoi will throw a positive light on Vietnam’s development model, says Prime Minister Phuc.

Vietnam should play in an international role in the summit and showcase its development model as one moving in the right direction, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said Tuesday.

Addressing a ceremony at the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) on Tuesday, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said the upcoming meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is also an opportunity for Vietnam to demonstrate the nation’s good investment environment.

"This important event has shown that Vietnam’s investment environment is good, that Vietnam’s development model is going in a right direction, and especially that the security and safety in Vietnam is wonderful," the PM said.

In his annual State of the Union address to Congress last Wednesday, President Trump had said he would meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Vietnam on February 27-28, and later specified Hanoi as the location.

Vietnam's Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh is on a three-day (February 12-14) visit to North Korea.

The trip follows North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho’s visit to Hanoi late last November, when both sides agreed to develop bilateral relations and Vietnam offered to share its development experiences with North Korea.
