The surge was attributed to the stronger Singapore dollar against the Japanese yen and the launch of new flight routes between the two countries, The Straits Times reported, citing the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) Singapore Office.
"A stronger Singapore dollar made Japan more affordable and appealing," said JNTO.
Japan also set a record for total tourist arrivals in 2024, welcoming over 36.8 million visitors. This surpassed the previous record of nearly 32 million in 2019, signaling a full recovery of the tourism boom disrupted by the Covid pandemic.
For the second consecutive year, Japan was named the world's favorite travel destination by Condé Nast Traveler readers in the magazine's 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards.
