Vietnam Airlines to charge for excess carry-on baggage from Nov 3

Under the new regulations, carry-on baggage that exceeds the maximum weight of 10 kg for economy class or 18 kg for business class will be charged the equivalent of one piece of checked baggage.

Baggage exceeding standard dimensions will be charged the same as an oversized checked baggage item.

Any baggage exceeding both the maximum weight and standard dimensions will be charged the same as a bulky checked baggage item.

On the airline's website, the rate for one standard excess bag on domestic itineraries is VND600,000 (US$22.74).

On international flights, it is calculated based on the flight route and region.

Under current regulations, on business class, the total weight of hand baggage must not exceed 18 kg, including two pieces of baggage (neither weighing in excess of 10 kg) and one accessory.

On premium economy and economy classes, a bag not exceeding 10 kg and an accessory are allowed.

The standard dimension for the carry-on baggage is 56 x 36 x 23 cm , and the accessory 40 x 30 x 15 cm.
