In a post following the "Sawasdee Nihao" campaign launch, PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra described tourism as more than economic exchange. She called it a bridge of warmth and friendship between Thai and Chinese people - one built on shared smiles, culture, and mutual respect.
The PM noted that 6.7 million Chinese tourists visited Thailand over the past year, reaffirming their position as Thailand's largest visitor group.
She credited this to the combined tourism support of both governments, especially as Thailand declared this year the "Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year."
She outlined her commitment to boosting infrastructure, enhancing safety, and introducing innovative man-made destinations to elevate tourist experiences. These are not just development strategies, she said, but a promise of care for Chinese tourists and a reflection of the growing bond between the nations.
The Bank of Thailand expects the number of Chinese visitors to the country to fall to five million this year, 25% less than in 2024, amid a tourism slump.
Last year Thailand received over 35 million visitors, including 6.7 million Chinese.
Only 1.83 million Chinese had visited by May 18.
