A 52-year-old Singaporean man died in Thailand's popular tourist destination Phuket shortly after receiving a massage service at Patong Beach.

The man underwent a 45-minute oil body massage but stopped breathing soon after the session, Bangkok Post reported, citing local police.

He had fallen asleep during the procedure but later began showing signs of distress, Phuket News reported.

Despite attempts by the massage parlor staff to resuscitate him, he did not regain consciousness.

The staff immediately contacted the police following the incident.

The man's wife declined an autopsy and expressed her intention to bring his body home for religious rites.

She informed police that her husband had consumed beer before the massage and attributed his death to his sedentary lifestyle, ruling out foul play, Khaosod English News reported.

This was the second massage-related death in a week in Thailand.

Thai female singer Ping Chayada died in Udon Thani province after a neck massage reportedly caused complications.

The twisting of her neck during the massage was identified as a contributing factor. She initially experienced head pain and numbness in her arm after the first session. A second massage worsened her condition, ultimately leading to her death.

Authorities have not yet announced the official cause of their deaths.

According to the United States National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, the risk of adverse effects from massages is generally low.

However, rare cases of serious side effects, such as blood clots, nerve injuries, or bone fractures, have been reported.

These incidents are typically associated with vigorous massage techniques.
