Ho Chi Minh City will set off fireworks at two venues on the night of April 30 to celebrate Reunification Day.

There would be 15-minute high-altitude pyrotechnics from 9 p.m. at the Thu Thiem Tunnel between Districts 1 and 2 and Dam Sen Park in District 11, Tran The Thuan, director of the city Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said at a press conference Wednesday.

There will a four-day holiday for Reunification Day-Labor Day (April 30 and May 1) since they both fall on the weekend.

Last year authorities had scrapped the fireworks shows and suspended crowded events amid the fourth wave of coronavirus that has caused over 10.3 million infections and 42,000 deaths so far.

There were also no fireworks shows for the Lunar New Year in February 2021 and 2022, and the New Year 2022, as the city focused resources on fighting Covid-19.
