Phu Quoc Island was the third most searched Vietnamese destinations by Chinese tourists in the first half of this year after Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, according to online travel platform Agoda.

Phu Quoc's growing popularity was likely driven by its stunning beaches and increased international flight connectivity, according to Agoda based on its booking data between January and June.

In the first quarter of this year, Phu Quoc received over 40,000 Chinese tourists, already surpassing the total number recorded in 2024.

Tran Minh Khoa, chairman of Phu Quoc, said the number of Chinese visitors to Phu Quoc reached 140,000 during the January-June period, double against the same period last year.

Chinese travel firms are calling for more tour options with specialized guides fluent in Chinese to enhance the travel experience for their clientele.

A series of Chinese celebrities recently flocked to Phu Quoc.

In February, Chinese actor and martial artist Vincent Zhao celebrated the Lunar New Year holiday with his family on Phu Quoc Island.

Chinese actor Johnny Huang was alo seen vacationing in Phu Quoc with a young woman.

Phu Quoc Island, voted the world's second most beautiful by readers of Travel+Leisure magazine last year after the Maldives, welcomed nearly 900,000 international visitors in the first half this year, a 76.7% increase over the same period last year.
