The number of foreign arrivals to Phu Quoc accounted for nearly all of foreign tourists in Kien Giang Province.
The Mekong Delta province welcomed over 897,160 visitors, including 126,175 foreigners, in January, achieving 8.4% of the annual target, according to the provincial Department of Tourism.
Tourism revenue for the month totaled more than VND2.9 trillion, reaching 10.4% of the yearly goal.
Phu Quoc has been selected to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting in 2027. To prepare for this event, the province is investing in upgrading infrastructure, including its international airport, hotels, resorts, entertainment venues, transportation systems, and ports.
Last year, Phu Quoc was voted the world's second most beautiful island by readers of the American magazine Travel + Leisure, after the Maldives.
Kien Giang is intensifying its tourism promotion efforts, strengthening collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City and other Mekong Delta provinces, and expanding international partnerships to attract more global visitors.
