The nearly six-minute video shared on May 18 by Musk, ranked the world's richest man by Forbes with a net worth of US$807.7 billion, spotlights the station's vast multi-story structure, sprawling glass-roofed halls and integrated transport network, attracting more than 56 million views online.
One widely circulated comment under the video read, "Welcome to the future! China now operates the world's most extensive high-speed rail network."
The station in Chongqing's Nan'an District commenced operations in June 2025 alongside the opening of the Chongqing East - Qianjiang section of the Chongqing - Xiamen high-speed railway. The line is designed to support trains traveling at speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour, according to Chinese news site CGTN.
The station houses 15 platforms and 29 tracks, built to handle up to 16,000 passengers every hour, Xinhua News Agency reported.
The station building spans eight floors with a total construction area of 1.22 million square meters, equivalent to 170 standard football fields. Its roof covers approximately 120,000 square meters and weighs 16,500 tonnes.
What sets the station apart is its function as a comprehensive "four-dimensional" transport hub, integrating multiple transportation networks within a single complex.
Beyond high-speed rail services, the station is linked to metro lines, buses, taxis and long-distance coach services, enabling passengers to transfer more seamlessly between different modes of transport.
It is unclear whether Musk is currently in Chongqing, China's "mountain city" known for its spicy hotpot and one of the country's most popular tourist destinations. The billionaire was among a delegation of prominent American business leaders who joined U.S. President Donald Trump during his visit to China on May 13-15.
Chongqing recorded a tourism boom last year, welcoming more than 2 million inbound trips, according to local tourism authorities.
Among them, 1.5 million were international visitors, marking a year-on-year increase of more than 70%.
The city is widely recognized as China's sprawling "cyberpunk" megacity, known for its dramatic multi-level "8D" mountain terrain and as the departure point for Yangtze River cruises.
As the birthplace of Sichuan hotpot, Chongqing is also a major destination for food lovers seeking the region's signature mala flavors, a distinctive combination of spicy and numbing sensations.
