More provinces shut down tourist sites as precaution against Covid-19 spreads

The Mekong Delta province of An Giang, which borders Cambodia, Monday closed its popular Sam Mountain pilgrimage site where the deity of prosperity, Ba Chua Xu, is worshiped.

It has also suspended the opening ceremony of the Ba Chua Xu Festival to be held from June 2 to 7. Every year the festival attracts around five million visitors.

Authorities in southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province have stopped tours to the Con Dao Special National Relic on Con Dao Island.

Southern Phu Yen Province, home to tourist destinations such as Da Dia Reep, Vung Ro Bay and Dai Lanh Cape, closed all tourist attractions and religious sites on Monday.

Khanh Hoa Province, home to Nha Trang and a number of charming islands, has stopped entry to Binh Ba Island, nicknamed Lobster Island.

VinWonders, an amusement site in Nha Trang owned by conglomerate Vingroup, closed on Saturday until further notice.

Quang Binh, dubbed ‘Kingdom of Caves’, has suspended tours to Phong Nha Cave, Paradise Cave, Hang Toi (Dark Cave), Nuoc Mooc Spring, Ozo Treetop Park and some crowded tourist areas, but still allowed other adventure tours (for 19 people at maximum) including conquering Son Doong, the world’s largest cave. The central province is home to UNESCO heritage site Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park and many limestone caves.

The northern province of Ninh Binh, around two hours from Hanoi, has also shut all tourist sites, including the UNESCO-recognized Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex.

Since April 27, when the new Covid-19 wave began, there have been 502 community transmission cases in 26 cities and provinces.
