The Philippines, known as Asia's leading beach destination, generated a record PHP760.5 billion (US$13 billion) in tourism revenue in 2024, marking a 9% increase year-on-year and exceeding pre-Covid levels.

"The Philippine tourism industry is not only bouncing back but also evolving and expanding, contributing significantly to the nation's economic stability and growth," Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco said Monday, as reported by the Philippine News Agency.

In 2019, the year before the onset of the pandemic, it only earned PHP600 billion in tourism revenues.

Frasco attributed the growth to tourism policies that emphasize the sustainable development of the country's resources.

Despite welcoming over 5.4 million foreign visitors in 2024, a rise of 8.7% year-on-year, the Philippines fell short of its target of 7.7 million arrivals.

Renowned for its 36,000-kilometer coastline, the Philippines was named "Asia's Leading Beach Destination" at the 2024 World Travel Awards.
