8 Vietnamese dishes to be introduced in France

The “Vietnamese Cuisine Day in France” in Perpignan City will feature Vietnamese foods, such as fresh summer rolls and crispy mini-pancakes.

The event will be held by Vietnam's Foreign Ministry, UNESCO, and France's School of Tourism and Cooking of Bourquin on October 17-18 with the theme "Journey to Vietnam World Heritage Sites".

It aims to promote Vietnamese cuisine and culture to the world.

The program will introduce eight Vietnamese cuisines from the country’s UNESCO world heritage sites, including goi cuon (fresh summer rolls), banh ram it (glutinous rice cakes), banh khot (crispy mini-pancakes), che khoai tia (purple sweet potato soup), cha gio hat sen (spring rolls with lotus seeds), cha thit bo la lot (beef in lotot leaves), muc chien com (fried squid balls with green rice flakes) and cha ram (egg rolls).

It is expected to welcome about 2,000 guests including local officials and people in the food and tourism circles.

The event will also have seminars and exhibitions introducing the eight UNESCO world heritage sites in Vietnam and a Vietnamese-French chef exchange.

The latest World Travel Awards, hailed as "The Oscars of the Travel Industry" by The Wall Street Journal, last Saturday chose Vietnam as "Asia’s Leading Culinary Destination" reaffirming the growing international reputation of Vietnamese cuisine.

CNN recently named Vietnam’s pho noodle soup and fresh summer rolls among the world’s 50 best dishes.
