A passenger was arrested after triggering a bomb hoax at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1.

The person allegedly claimed there was an explosive device on board the departing flight at about 5:32 p.m. on Tuesday, The Star reported.

Aviation security officers activated emergency protocols, cordoned off the affected area and worked with police and the bomb disposal unit to assess the threat, Malaysian Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) said in a statement on Wednesday.

All passengers were kept safe throughout the operation, MAHB said.

Following security checks, the flight resumed at 7:19 p.m. after more than an hour of being delayed.

Authorities declared a stand-down at 8:58 p.m., confirming the threat was a hoax, New Straits Times reported.

Airport operations continued as normal, and aviation authorities reminded travelers that making false threats is a serious criminal offense under the law.

No further details about the suspect or charges were provided in the statement.
