According to a notice on the airline's website, the Ipoh-Singapore route will be suspended from April 25, though no official reason for the decision has been provided.
Authorities in Perak state, where Ipoh is located, said they were not consulted or informed before the announcement, The Star reported.
The route has consistently seen strong demand, Bernama reported.
Perak's tourism, industry, investment, and corridor development committee chairman Loh Sze Yee expressed concern that the suspension could negatively affect tourism in both Ipoh and the broader Perak region.
Ipoh, the capital of Perak, is located about 200 km north of Kuala Lumpur. The city is renowned for its UNESCO-listed heritage sites, its famous white coffee, and its scenic natural attractions.
Malaysian authorities have stated they will work closely with AirAsia regarding the termination on the route.
Malaysia aims to attract 31.4 million foreign tourists this year, a 25% increase from the 25 million recorded in 2024.
Singapore remained the country's largest source of visitors, with 9.1 million arrivals last year.
