A Chinese tourist has died after falling from a height at Kansai International Airport’s T1 terminal building in Osaka, prompting police to launch an investigation.

According to police reports, officers were dispatched after receiving alerts from passers-by about a man perched on a roadside barrier on the terminal’s fourth floor on Tuesday afternoon, Dimsum Daily reported.

Upon arrival, authorities found the man suspended from the barrier, clinging to the building’s edge, Tokyo Weekender reported.

Paramedics transported him to a nearby medical facility, where he was later pronounced dead.

Initial investigations indicate the deceased was a Chinese tourist visiting Japan with his mother.

Japan welcomed 3.89 million foreign visitors last month, up 17.6% year-on-year, marking a record high for October.

Mainland China remained the largest source of visitors to Japan in the first 10 months of 2025, with about 8.2 million arrivals, a 40.7% increase year-on-year, accounting for roughly 20% of the total.
