A video of a Chinese tour guide who yelled at a group of tourists who refused to buy his expensive tour packages has gone viral on social media, prompting officials to launch an investigation.

The group of travelers initially joined a two-day tour group to Snow Town in Harbin in Heilongjiang province in northeastern China for 358 yuan (US$50) each person, South China Morning Post reported.

However, their tour guide encouraged them to spend up to 1,500 yuan to purchase extra skiing packages. They refused, resulting in a heated argument.

The guide said they would not be allowed to enter Snow Town unless they bought the other packages.

Video footage that showed the group of tourists being yelled by the guide has received more than three million views and nearly 3,000 comments on Weibo, China's largest social media platform.

The video footage was also widely shared on Douyin.

The guide has since been suspended, and tourism officials are investigating the incident.
