The number of visitors to central Vietnam for the Reunification Day-Labor Day holiday has exceeded expectations.

During the four-day holiday, from April 29 to May 3, Khanh Hoa Province, home to beach town Nha Trang, saw 275,500 visitors, a 119 percent increase from the same period last year. The province's hotels and resorts were 87 percent full, with tourism revenue reaching over VND529 billion ($23 million).

Nguyen Thi Le Thanh, director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism, said thanks to favorable weather conditions, tour packages and tourist destinations have attracted high number of visitors.

"For the holiday, Khanh Hoa has organized a series of events and programs to promote tourism. Within the four days, there has been a marked increase in the number of tourists, along with both domestic and international flights," she said.

Binh Dinh Province, home to beach town Quy Nhon, received 192,000 visitors during the period, a 92 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Its hotels and resorts were at least 75 percent full, especially facilities along the coastline.

Since the holiday began, over 135 flights from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Hai Phong have arrived at Phu Cat Airport. Besides numerous tourist activities and destinations in the area, Binh Dinh also kickstarted the Quy Nhon tourism festival last Sunday night, attracting tens of thousands of tourists to Nguyen Tat Thanh Square.

In Da Nang, over 254,000 tourists visited the city during the holiday, including around 7,400 foreigners, a threefold increase from the same period last year. Hotels running along the coastline were over 90 percent full.

In Quang Binh, known as Vietnam's cave kingdom, eco-tourism trends have been on the rise post-Covid. During the holiday, around 115,000 tourists visited the area, a 4.6 percent increase from the same period last year. Due to unfavorable weather conditions, like long-lasting rains, several beach events could not be held. Tourists opted for other locations like the Phong Nha Cave or Nuoc Mooc Stream instead.

In Hoi An, the tourism scene has been bustling since March, when Vietnam reopened international tourism, and continued all the way to the holiday. Every day, the ancient town receives around 10,000 visitors, who enjoyed locations like Thanh Ha Pottery Village and Tra Que Herbs Village.
