Australian tourist jailed for causing ruckus at Singapore's Changi Airport

An Australian man was sentenced to 21 weeks in jail for setting fire to a curtain blind and verbally abusing an immigration officers at Singapore's Changi Airport.
Korkmaz Hasan, 34, pleaded guilty to multiple charges for offenses including harassment and using criminal force on public servants at a court on Monday, The Straits Times reported.
According to the indictment, he arrived in Singapore on Dec 11, 2024.
The man became agitated and verbally abusive toward officers after being denied a cigarette.
He removed the curtain blinds and used a lighter to set them on fire, threatening to escalate the blaze, Channel News Asia reported.
Officers from the Airport Police Division managed to extinguish the fire.
The man also sprayed a fire extinguisher at the officers before being subdued and arrested.
The damaged curtain blind would cost S$1,000 to replace, the court said.
Changi Airport, often lauded for its state-of-the-art amenities such as duty-free shopping, luxury accommodations, and automated check-ins, was recently voted the world's best airport by London-based aviation consultancy Skytrax.
