A court in Singapore sentenced an Australian man to 10 days in jail for stealing almost S$3,500 (US$2,679) worth of items from multiple shops at Changi Airport.

Aaron Gary Slater, 45, pleaded guilty to three theft charges on Oct. 31, The Straits Times reported.

The incident took place on Sept. 2 as he was in transit at Terminal 2 of Changi Airport after flying in from Melbourne and was waiting to board a flight to Maldives.

At around 7:30 p.m. that day, he entered Tumi, a store selling travel products, took a blue Tumi luggage piece valued at S$1,045 from the shelf, and left without paying, Mothership reported.

His actions were captured on the store’s CCTV.

Later that evening, he also stole a pink Victoria’s Secret pyjama set worth $113, two pairs of Oakley sunglasses valued at over $340 each, a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses worth $365, a brown Adidas bag worth $81, and a Starbucks tumbler valued at $52.

Additional items stolen included a luggage tag, five bracelets, and a black Hard Rock Cafe cap.

His thefts came to light after a sales assistant at the Ray-Ban store reported it.

Slater was subsequently apprehended by airport security in the departure transit area, with the stolen items found in his possession.

Further investigation revealed that Slater had previously shoplifted at Changi Airport on July 28, while he was in transit.

A store employee saw what he did and managed to retrieve the bag after chasing and confronting him, and no police report was made.

Under Singapore's law, those who are convicted of theft in dwelling can face a maximum penalty of seven years' imprisonment and a fine.
