Phoebe Gates, youngest daughter of tech billionaire Bill Gates, says boyfriend ‘hates’ the $20 painting in her bedroom and wants it removed

In an interview with The New York Times, the 22-year-old said she lives in a loft-style apartment in New York City, where the bedroom walls are painted a pale pink. Above her dresser hangs the affordable artwork, a painting of a pink cassette tape, which Arthur "hates" so much that he removes it whenever he visits.

The couple are now looking for a replacement, she added.

Arthur, who lives in California, frequently travels to New York to visit Phoebe on weekends. The two met nearly two years ago when she collaborated with British designer Stella McCartney, Arthur’s aunt. He is the eldest son of Mary McCartney and her ex-husband, TV producer Alistair Donald.

Although Arthur comes from a family deeply rooted in music history, Phoebe admitted she "knew nothing about music" before they started dating, she told podcast host Alex Cooper during an episode of "Call Her Daddy." She joked that she had been trying to get Arthur to serenade her "for a very long time," but "it has not happened," adding that he "does not have any musical talent" himself.

Rumors about their relationship began in October 2023 when the pair were spotted vacationing in Europe, as reported by Us Weekly. Phoebe later confirmed the relationship in a blog post for lifestyle magazine Nylon, referring to Arthur as her boyfriend.

Beyond her personal life, Phoebe is focused on building her AI-powered fashion startup Phia and co-hosting the podcast "The Burnouts" with her former Stanford roommate and climate activist Sophia Kianni. She has emphasized that her ventures operate independently of financial support or influence from her billionaire parents, Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates.
