Computer systems analysts can earn up to US$149,360 a year and face relatively low stress due to minimal customer-facing pressure and fewer daily conflicts, Forbes reported.

The occupation ranks third among U.S. high-paying, low-stress careers in 2026 as reported by Forbes citing a ranking by career platform Resume Genius. It offers a median annual salary of $103,790, or $49.90 an hour, with the top 10% of earners making $149,360. Employment in the field is projected to grow 9% from 2024 to 2034.

The role of a computer systems analyst centers on helping organizations improve how their technology functions. Analysts examine how businesses use technology, identify inefficiencies, and recommend upgrades to hardware, software, and networks.

They also assess costs and benefits, support management decisions, oversee system implementation, test new systems, train users, and troubleshoot issues to ensure smooth operations, according to the U.S. News & World Report.

Resume Genius noted that computer systems analysis is a low-stress career because it is primarily a planning and problem-solving role rather than a crisis-driven one, with structured project timelines and limited customer-facing pressure.

Randy Weinberg, teaching faculty emeritus in the information systems program at Carnegie Mellon University, told U.S. News & World Report that despite decades in the field, the pace of change remains constant.

"It never gets less exciting," he said. "It's a constant challenge to keep up with all of the changes."

Astronomers, who study stars, planets, and galaxies and often work with a high degree of autonomy, topped the list, with earnings reaching up to $191,880.
