Phoebe Gates, daughter of billionaire Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates, says her past boyfriends were often intimidated when meeting her father.

"I think [it’s] terrifying for the guy, but for me? It’s hilarious," Phoebe shared during the April 30 episode of "Call Her Daddy" podcast with Alex Cooper. "My dad’s pretty socially awkward. But for guys, I think they get really wigged out."

While Phoebe, 22, now finds these encounters amusing, it was not always the case, according to entertainment news outlet E! News. She recalled an uncomfortable moment from high school when her dad drove her and her then-boyfriend to a dance. "First off, my dad insisted on us listening to NPR the entire 30-minute drive," Phoebe remembered. "Then he stopped for fast food."

The awkwardness continued when Bill mistakenly called her date by the wrong name when he dropped them off. "I literally wanted to die," Phoebe said. "But now, I think it’s become easier for me because when you introduce a guy to your dad, depending on how he reacts, that’s how you know if he’s gonna be a good guy or not."

Phoebe seems to have found her match in Arthur Alistair Donald, the grandson of Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney. The two confirmed their romance in June 2024, with Phoebe sharing the news in an online blog for Nylon, a lifestyle magazine, calling Arthur her "boyfriend".

Phoebe is the youngest of three children born to Bill and Melinda Gates, who divorced in 2021 after 27 years of marriage. After graduating early from Stanford with a degree in human biology, Phoebe launched Phia with Kianni, a former college roommate and activist.
