Vietnamese pro FIFA gamer becomes Bundesliga esports runner-up

Le Huy Hai finished second at the Virtual Bundesliga (VBL) International Series - Asia Finals on Monday.

Hai made it to the final round of the tournament, facing Thai player FazeTDKeane and China’s WolvesQiu. Although the Vietnamese player lost against FazeTDKeane, he beat WolvesQiu on penalties to finish as runner-up.

VBL International Series is one of the world’s premier open football esports tournaments, which provides FIFA 21 and FIFA Online 4 gamers of all levels an opportunity to play their favorite Bundesliga team on a global stage.

The format of the Asia Finals sees players going on a best-of-3 round robin series in FIFA Online 4.

Also last month, the first VBL International Series tournament was hosted in Vietnam by Next Media, official partner of Germany’s top-flight league Bundesliga, from May 16 to 23.

The best online FIFA players in the country have vied to represent Vietnam in Asia Finals, including Hai (the champion), Tran Trung Hieu, Nguyen Le Thanh Tong and Vu Quang Huy.

The four entered the regional finals but after the first round, Hieu, Tong and Huy were eliminated. Only Hai made it to the last round.

The prize pool of VBL International Series - Asia Finals this year is $10,000. The winner gets $1,000 and the runner-up, $500. Champions from each country also receive $300 each and the second place, $100.
