Tran Duc Duy won the U8 category, while Nguyen Quang Minh and Nguyen Huynh Minh Thien achieved victory in the U10 and U18 categories. The three players helped Vietnam top the boys’ event with three gold medals, followed by India with two.
Although Duy is unranked, he won eight out of nine matches and earned eight points. Danis Kuandykuly of Kazakhstan also finished on eight points, but Duy had won more matches.
In the U10 category, Minh went unbeaten with eight wins, one draw and earned 8.5 points.
Thien was also undefeated in the U18 category with seven victories, two draws and eight points.
Previously, Nguyen Linh Dan had won a gold medal in the U14 category of the girls’ event.
Overall, Vietnam clinched four gold and one silver medal, placing second. India topped the tournament with four gold, four silver and seven bronze medals.
The event was held online from Oct. 22 to 31 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and had five age group events: U8, U10, U12, U14, and U18.
