Vietnam’s Tran Quyet Chien will face a former world champion in the semifinals of the Three-Cushion Billiards World Cup Sunday.

Chien will play 2014 champion South Korean Cho Jae-ho at 4 p.m. Sunday (Hanoi time) in Antalya, Turkey.

Chien, who hails from the southern Ca Mau Province, is currently ranked seventh in the world in the three-cushion game, while Cho is ranked sixth.

The Vietnamese cueist beat nine-time world champion Eddy Merckx of Belgium and former world champion South Korean Choi Sung-won on his way to the semifinals.

He is the only one remaining among four Vietnamese cueists who joined the first Three-Cushion World Cup of this year. The tournament opened February 11. There are usually seven such events a year.

Last year, Chien became the first Vietnamese player to win the Three-Cushion World Cup in Ho Chi Minh City.
