Nguyen Tien Minh beat Indonesia’s Shesar Hiren Rhustavito to reach the quarterfinals of the regional tournament for the second time.

Minh, 36, continued his impressive run and progressed to the men’s singles quarterfinals of the 2019 Asia Badminton Championships in Wuhan, China, on Thursday.

Despite facing an opponent placed 24 places above him in world rankings, the Vietnamese veteran confidently dominated first set to win 21-15.

However, Rhustavito fought hard to win back 13-21 before being tamed 21-13 in the last game.

Minh has reached his second quarterfinals of the Asia Championships after eight years.

In the next round, he will face China’s Chen Long on Friday evening.

The 2019 Asia Badminton Championships is being held at the Wuhan Sports Center Gymnasium in China from 23 to 28 April 2019.

Minh is the final Vietnamese representative at the 39th edition of the tournament after his teammate, Nguyen Thuy Linh, lost in straight sets in the second round to China’s He Bingjiao.
