Vietnamese-American tennis pro exits French Open

Kwiatkowski, at 218th on the ATP world ranking, faced Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo (116th), the eighth-seeded player in the tournament. Despite playing a stronger opponent, Kwiatkowski started the game with confidence. The first set saw both players entering a tie-break, which Kwiatkowski won 7-6.

In the second set, the intensity increased. There was a time when Kwiatkowski led 4-3, though Cerundolo came back to win 6-4. The third set ended dramatically as Cerundolo defeated Kwiatkowski 7-5 in the tie-break. The overall result ended in a 2-1 win for Cerundolo after two hours and 50 minutes.

On Tuesday, Kwiatkowski beat French player Constant Lestienne (223rd) in only 75 minutes in the first qualification round of Roland Garros. This is the first time Kwiatkowski made it into the second qualification round of a Grand Slam tournament on clay.

2021 French Open or Roland Garros is an upcoming Grand Slam tennis tournament to be played on outdoor clay courts. It is set to take place at Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France, between May 30 and June 13.

In February, Kwiatkowski had successfully obtained Vietnamese citizenship and is set to play for Vietnam's national tennis team at upcoming tournaments. He has played in three Grand Slam tournaments, including Australian Open, Roland Garros and U.S. Open.
