Vietnam women finish fourth in World Beach Games

The Vietnam women's beach handball team made history by reaching the semi-finals of the 2019 ANOC World Beach Games in Qatar.

But they lost 26-14, 23-18 to Brazil in the bronze medal match on October 16.

Denmark won gold by beating Hungary 21-19, 15-14 in the final.

This was Vietnam's first ever entry into the semifinals, and they got there by winning group B.

After starting off poorly by losing to Spain (1-2) and Greece (0-2), they beat Poland (2-1) and Australia (2-0).

They earned a spot in the quarterfinals by winning the crucial match against China 23-16, 26-15.

In the last eight they beat Argentina 31-22, 16-20, 9-8, but lost 25-14, 16-12 in the semi-final on Tuesday to Hungary.

The ANOC World Beach Games 2019 took place from October 11 to 16 and attracted 1,240 athletes from 97 countries and territories.
