SEA eSports Championships (SEA EC) will be hosted by Vietnam in January next year.

According to Vietnam Recreational and Electronic Sports Association (VIRESA), SEA EC will be hosted online to comprise three games: PUBG Mobile, League of Legends: Wild Rift, and Valorant.

Qualifiers will occur in November and December.

The main event in January will welcome 52 teams from 10 esports federations in Southeast Asia that will compete for a prize pool of $140,000.

"Two out of three games in this tournament are SEA Games 31 sports. Therefore, SEA EC 2021 is not just an annual event but will also be a chance for athletes to prepare for SEA Games 31," Do Viet Hung, general secretary of VIRESA, said.

The tournament will be organized by VIRESA and tech corp VNG.

According to Newzoo, an esports analytics and market research company, Southeast Asia is expected to top world esports revenues with an annual growth rate of 20.8 percent until 2024 and 42.5 million spectators.
