Vietnam were defeated by Chinese Taipei in an intense opening match of FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup by a mere one point.

The team had a slow start to the game and couldn't convert their chances to gain an early lead. Instead, they were drawn into a stamina race by their quick and skilled opponents.

Vietnam let Chinese Taipei take the lead most of the time but patiently caught up. There were times when Vietnam led 14-12, but missed a few free throws and paid the price, as Chinese Taipei made the most out of their chances to hit back and lead 17-16. At this moment, Tran Dang Khoa had the opportunity to decide the game for Vietnam with two free throws but only got one in. Later, Chinese Taipei scored again to secure the 18-17 win.

Nguyen Huynh Phu Vinh had an impressive performance in both offense and defense but that was not enough for Vietnam to score the win.

With this unfortunate loss, Vietnam will have to win against Thailand in the next game Wednesday afternoon, then wait for the result between Thailand and Chinese Taipei to see if they could progress to the next round.

2022 FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup is held in Singapore from July 6 to 10. It features 53 teams (30 men's teams and 23 women's) from 30 countries.
