Nguyen Hoang Phuong showed great form as he beat four Indonesian shooters to win the 10 meter pistol event in the pre-Sea Games tournament on Thursday.

The event was hosted in the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi. Vietnam sent seven shooters to the event and all eyes were on Tran Quoc Cuong, a skilled 10 m pistol shooter in the national team. He represented Vietnam in this category at the 2016 Olympics.

But after six years, at the age of 48, Cuong is no longer at his top form. In the final, he got eliminated from the top eight.

36-year-old Hoang Phuong was the only Vietnam shooter to remain in the competition and he defeated Prabowa Raia, Sukmana Wira, Pratama Deny and Nugraha Arya to take the top spot.

Aside from the 10 m pistol, other events also took place.

Vietnam, Indonesia and Singapore took part in the pre-SEA Games tournament, which featured 143 athletes, 11 coaches in 16 categories. The main event will be hosted by Vietnam in May.
