The incident occurred on Thursday morning, New Delhi time, in Wazirabad village. According to police, Radhika was in the kitchen when her father, Deepak, shot her five times with his licensed revolver and three bullets hit her in the back, local media reported.

Hearing gunshots, Radhika’s uncle Kuldeep and cousin Piyush rushed to the scene and found her lying unconscious. They immediately took her to hospital, but she was pronounced dead before arrival.

Deepak later confessed to the crime.

Radhika’s mother, Manju, was also at home but told police she was unwell and did not witness the shooting, so she declined to file a statement.

According to NDTV, Deepak told police he killed his daughter because he felt humiliated and that his self-esteem had been hurt. Radhika had retired early from professional tennis due to injury and later opened a tennis academy to coach children.

Stationv House Officer Inspector Vinod Kumar told The Indian Express: "He (Deepak) had been upset for a while as he was being taunted by locals over his daughter's income. He was troubled by their remarks - they would keep saying the house is running on her money, and he is too dependent on that. He had asked her (Radhika) several times earlier to stop working at the academy, but she refused. He could not take it anymore."
