Despite the impacts of Covid-19, SEA Games 31 organizers won't reduce their sponsorship target.

"Covid-19 has greatly affected the economy. However, we are confident to earn the expected amount of money from sponsors for the event," said Tran Duc Phan, deputy head of SEA Games 31 organizers.

The total expense to host the event in Vietnam is around VND1,000 billion ($44 million). Organizers expect to get $11.3 million in revenue, of which $3 million is from sponsors.

The organizers are also speeding up the upgrade process of facilities, especially competition venues, which must be completed by March 2022.

SEA Games 31 is set to take place from May 12 to 23, 2022 in Hanoi and 11 northern localities. It was supposed to commence in November 2021, but due to Covid-19, the event was postponed to May next year. The host Vietnam set the goal to be in the top three.

The event will feature 40 sports with 526 categories.

At SEA Games 30 in 2019, Vietnam finished second with 98 gold medals, behind the host Philippines.
