The Association for International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) has granted certification for four distances at VnExpress Marathon Sparkling Quy Nhon 2022.

Dave Cundy, vice president and technical director of AIMS, sent an email to race organizers on May 30, verifying the four routes of VnExpress Marathon Sparkling Quy Nhon 2022 qualified for international standards.

With this certification, runners can use their records to sign up for major world marathons, including the Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon, or New York City Marathon.

Kim Vivian, an AIMS expert, who tested and measured four routes in Quy Nhon, said the VnExpress Marathon routes getting AIMS running track certification would be a positive signal for the Vietnam marathon community.

"With the efforts of the organizers, I believe more and more runners from other countries will come to Vietnam to join races. In future, the tournament has the potential to become an international marathon event," said Vivian.

Vivian assessed the VM Quy Nhon route as straight and flat, with a reasonable distribution ratio that would make it easier for runners to break their personal records.

"I am impressed with the early starting time of the 42-kilometer distance, allowing participants to enjoy the gorgeous sunrise over the sea while running from the sand dunes to the city."

AIMS experts also highly appreciated the tournament's starting and finishing lines at Nguyen Tat Thanh Square, next to the beach, with many restaurants, cafes, hotels, and homestays.

"Quy Nhon's beaches are breathtaking. After finishing the race, runners will have time to rest, swim, or enjoy the seafood," said Vivian.

A total 10,000 participants in VM Quy Nhon will indulge in breathtaking scenery across the coastal city on June 12. The race will pass famous landmarks like Nguyen Tat Thanh Square, Quy Nhon Beach, Thi Nai Bridge, and Phuong Mai Sand Hill.
